Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Hmelyska

Exaltation church is located in a small village with an unusual name Hmeliska , which is located in one of the districts of the Ternopil region.   Initially, the church was a chapel who bore the name of St. James. Date of construction of the chapel accounts for 1897.

In 1905 the building was built for religious events. After the earthquake, during which was destroyed Catholic chapel (1911), it was decided to build a church. The new church was built 7 years, the first congregation crossed its threshold only in 1938. The stone church was named in honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The building of the temple is made in the neo-Gothic style of red brick, high angular part rises on 3 floors in the adjacent bell tower.

The fate of many churches and temples in the Soviet years has also involved the Church of Exaltation. At first it was closed, and after the walls of the temple was located warehouse. Now the church is restored. The building will be interesting not only for visitors to the city, and tourists travel through Hmelisk.
