St Nicholas Church (Armenian Church), Kamianets-Podilskyi

The huge Church of St. Nicholas is in a ruined state. But part of the fence and survived to this day belfry still striking sophistication and grandeur. In the 14th century in the area lived Armenian community, so today the temple is also known as the Armenian Cathedral. At that time there was a wooden church. Stone also appeared in the late 15th century. Impressive impressive bell tower, which has similarities with tower defense. You will see the loopholes and four patrol towers above. It was built in the mid 16th century.

The cathedral was destroyed during the capture of the city by the Turks and reconstructed only in the 18th century. He was a fine example of Byzantine architecture - with an octagonal dome and arcades around the perimeter. Particularly proud of parishioners kept here in the years 1767-1920 the icon of Our Lady of Armenia.

In the 1930`s the church was blown up. Today in surviving the belfry placed a small chapel, which is visited by the parishioners of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

In the 70 years during excavations in the southern part of the cathedral were found the remains of burials.
