Building Arsenal (Arsenal), Kherson

Start of city Kherson laid Catherine II. Most of the buildings dates back to the reign of the tsarist empire. Has survived many interesting architectural buildings of that era.

Arsenal - part of the complex structures of Kherson fortress . The building is considered the largest of all the rest. Arsenal was built in 1788 by engineer Ivan Strugovschikov. Construction began in 1784. This is evidenced by a commemorative plaque, which was found here in the reconstruction of the building. Arsenal served as storage. There were kept artillery, weapons and ammunition army. The main entrance is decorated with four-column portico. He seemed   symbolized the power and strength of not only buildings, but also of the whole army.

In 1812, the arsenal was rebuilt. This need arose after a major earthquake in 1802. Now the building appeared before Kherson in the Empire style. Portico became a six, which gave the construction of even more power. A little later, was held internal reconstruction. Building replanned for prisoner`s correctional facility.

Today landmark is considered one of the finest architectural monuments of the city. Arsenal retained the power and luxury, inherent architects. But it   not just a building dummy.
