Sretensky Cathedral, Kherson

Cathedral of the Presentation of the Lord in Kherson was built and consecrated in the late 19th century. Now the white cross-domed church serves the spiritual needs of the community UOC Kiev Patriarchate.

In the history of the cathedral were bright and dark years. So initially it served not only spiritual but also educational functions: when it functioned parochial school for children from poor families. But the Bolsheviks came to power, first shut down the school, and later - the church, while the upper part of the temple was destroyed, burned religious books. In the lower part of the church arranged for the new government warehouse.

Re-opened the temple for prayers and consecrated during the German occupation, but in 1962 a Soviet government again attempted to close it. However, the shrine parishioners defended.

Already in the years of Ukrainian independence at the church became a Sunday school for young parishioners and spiritual school for adults.

Candlemas Church is now the Cathedral of Kherson diocese UOC-KP.
