Synagogue Dubno

About the city of Dubno there are many historical references, since Ipatiev Chronicle, dated 1100 year. During the Middle Ages the city was one of the most important cultural centers in the Volyn region. Currently Dubno is an important regional center in the Rivne region with many attractions and historical monuments of different periods.

The history of the synagogue

Synagogue in Dubno - one of the ancient monuments. It was built in 1784 in the heart of the Jewish quarter and is considered the largest in the whole of Western Ukraine.

Construction of the synagogue continued for more than 12 years, and it contributed to the completion of Prince Lubomirski, as evidenced by a sign of thanksgiving at her front door. The building was built in the Baroque style, while it was a new trend in architecture. The structure is perfectly preserved thanks to two reconstructions in the 18th and 20th centuries.

On the first day of the foundation of the synagogue in it sounded the best songs of the Jewish liturgy, as well as a well-known children`s choir. However, the thickness of the walls of the synagogue made it possible, if necessary, carry out and defensive function. After the hostilities of the First World wood floor was changed to solid slab of concrete and updated the overall appearance of the synagogues.

Already since 1993 the synagogue officially became relate to historical and cultural heritage of the city of Dubno.

At present, the synagogue is not valid and is an architectural monument.
