Church of Saints Peter and Paul, Matveevka

Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Mykolayiv located in areas Matveevka (Central neighborhood). Now it`s just a district of the city. And before it was Matveevka village on the left bank of the Southern Bug. And there was located the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.

History of the village

Matveevka was part Buhohvardiyskoyi Palanca (administrative unit of Zaporizhzhya Sich). After 1775, when the decree of Catherine II was eliminated Cossacks, settled in the village Arnaut - Cossacks, Moldovans, Macedonians, Bulgarians who later formed Buh Cossacks.

Church history

Unfortunately, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul know very little. Founded she was still in pre-revolutionary times - in 1914. The archives preserved to our times church parish registers and lists of believers, indicating their names, age and social status.

When Matviyivtsi Soviet power was established (1920), the temple had club.

During World War II there pretty unusual for a case of Soviet history: from 1941 to 1945 in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul again conducted the liturgy. Agree, rarely hear that in Soviet times the church again turned a room and send service.

The temple was in school. Occasionally worship in the church conducted during after-school classes.

But in 1964, the church buildings were used for other purposes: it placed the school gym.

Now the Church of Saints Peter and Paul belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).
