Holy Resurrection Cathedral, Kovel
In the old part of Kovel, at the intersection of Independence and Vladimir, stands five-domed Holy Resurrection Cathedral. The special charm of the temple gets morning and evening, when his pink walls shine in the rays of the rising or setting sun.
From the history of the cathedral is known that it is five times rebuilt after the devastating fires. According to the chronicles, the first wooden church of the Resurrection was built on the site of the present cathedral back in 1549. It burned down in the late 17th century. Subsequently, here again erected temples, but they were destroyed by fire.
Stone Holy Resurrection Cathedral, which has come down to our times, was erected in the late 19th century. It can accommodate 400 worshipers at a time. Temple survived revolutions, wars, have not touched it in Soviet times, when dominated by atheism. In 1988, the jubilee - the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia and the 110th anniversary of the restoration of the cathedral - it was renovated inside and out. In 2005-2007, the cathedral repainted Lutsk painters.
