Izmail Fortress

On a massive hill near the waters of the Danube rises the fortress of Izmail. For a long time building served as protection and support of the Ottoman Empire on the northern borders.

It is noteworthy that   up to 1791 Izmail fortress was the most powerful protective structures across Europe.   Citadel area was 170 hectares, and length - 12 km.
