Synagogue (Mykolaiv Oblast Jewish community)

The Jewish community has always been numerous in Nikolaev. In the 20th century every fifth resident of the city was Jewish. In Nikolayev was born as one of the spiritual leaders of the Jewish people - 7 Rebbe Menachem Mendel Lyubavicheskiy Shnyeyerson. History of Jewish Community
Before the October revolution in Nikolayev there were about 26 synagogues. Anti-religious policy of the Soviet Union contributed to the preservation of any places of worship. This bitter fate is not spared and the synagogue.
In the 50 years of the 20th century closed its doors last synagogue Nikolaev. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 in the city was incorporated organization - the regional Jewish community.
At the inauguration of the organization was attended by guests from Israel, the United States, Moscow. The main event was the Hupa (wedding) ceremony once made this 10 par.
Members of the organization involved to conduct all major national holidays, studying Torah, Hebrew, preserve cultural traditions of its people, even publish their own newspaper - "Yahad".
Synagogue
Mykolayiv Oblast Jewish community housed in the premises of the old synagogue street Karl Liebknecht. Its foundation is laid in 1819. The opening was attended by the governor of Nikolayev and Sevastopol Alex Greig. Historians say that his wife was Jewish.
This synagogue is popularly called cobblers synagogue - are sewed shoes for sailors.
In Soviet times, the synagogue was home atheists, later - club medical staff.
By the way, this is the only building in Mykolaiv, which was never destroyed; what it was in 1819, and remained so to this day.
