Ruins Kizi-Kerman, Berislav

Ruins Kizi-Kerman, Berislav

The history of the city Berislav rooted in the 3rd century, it was then that here was founded capital of the Ostrogothic kingdom. In the 14th century this territory settled Khan Tokhtamysh and built his residence here.

One of the objects captured by the Turks became the Lithuanian "Customs Vytautas" (on the right bank of the Dnieper River). In place of the crossing, in 1484, the invaders built a fortress Kizi-Kermen, or as it is called - the Gaza-Kerman. The purpose of the fort was the observation of adjoining lands and the protection of the Zaporozhye Cossacks, often crossed the Dnieper on slow seagulls.

Not just Russian-Ukrainian troops tried to seize the fortress during the march to the Crimea. It was possible to implement his plan only in 1695. Under the leadership of Ivan Mazepa Cossacks conquered the fort. After almost a century, in 1784, on the remains of the once powerful city born Berislav facilities.

Today the fortress is preserved in part, and in some places it can be seen later attempts at restoration.
