Monument to the poet of ancient Rome Publius Ovidius Naso is located in the small town of Ovidiopol , which was named in his honor.
Earlier this settlement had a different name - Hedzhier. But Catherine II issued a decree renamed the city Ovidiopol. This event took place in 1795. This decision was made due to the fact that while many considered this area a place where the poet was sent into exile. The most interesting thing about this story is the fact that no evidence was found that, except during archaeological excavations have found a long-standing Roman burial, and is considered the tomb of Ovid. As has already been proven by historians, in fact Ovid was exiled in the territory of modern Ovidiopol, and in a city that is located in Romania - Tom, the modern name of Constanta.
The monument was created in 1993. Ovid imprinted on it like a real thinker who thinks about the philosophy of life and creates his new poem. By the way, the most famous were his poem "The Metamorphosis" and "The Art of Love."
