Hamaliyivskyy (Harlampyev) Monastery

The village Gamalievka Sumy region is the monastery with an amazing history. It was built of wood in the distant 1702. In 1713, the Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Skoropadsky his order has allocated money for the construction of a stone Gamalievskogo female monastery in whose territory the hetman, and was buried in the crypt in 1722.

After the completion of the main cathedral of the monastery was surrounded by high and thick walls, built on the tower and the bell tower, added economic structure and the cell for the nuns.

Harlampiev monastery survived two fires, and in 1924 was abolished. From the church made the House of Culture, and in the walls of the monastery opened a shelter for children and the elderly. In the early 60s of the 20th century the monastery was equipped and started to be used as a penal colony. To do this, the grave and the crypt demolished, removed icons. Only in 1994 began to restore the temple, and after and maintain service for prisoners. Part of the church is still used as a working space.
