Cathedral of St. Sophia, Zhitomir
On the area of the castle is the cathedral church of Hagia Sophia. Construction of the Catholic Cathedral ended in 1751. It was created in the Baroque style with elements of the Renaissance. The facade is divided into two tiers, the top decorated with two sharp spikes, as well as a sculpture of the Virgin Mary. The walls of the church lined with brick, the thickness of which reaches 2 meters, which suggests the possibility of using this defense structure.
In the 19th century the church was reconstructed by changing the appearance of a more classic, but at the same time maintaining the interior. The ceiling and walls are decorated with stucco same as 200 years ago, on the right side of the entrance hangs a crucifix and set the bowl for washing hands. In the courtyard of the church, you can sit on a bench and surrender his unhurried thoughts.
