Greek-Catholic Church of St Nicholas, Belz

Even in the 14th century it was built a wooden church of St. Nicholas in Belz . Since the mid-16th century, the mighty stone church constructed on a larger area, it was attached to the cell of the same convent, defensive wall and the bell tower. The construction of these cells was completed in 1743 two floors, along with the church form a closed courtyard. St. Nicholas Church now belongs to the Greek Catholic community. Today the cell rather pitiable survived over time gradually eroded more and more.
The facade of the church resembles a typical building in the baroque style, it is decorated with four sculptures and two sides three-tiered tower. Near the church is located a relatively new bell tower, built in 1906.
Purpose of the Church of St. Nicholas
Earlier, the church of St. Nicholas recounted about the past greatness and richness of the Dominicans in Belz. During the Second World War served as a defensive function for which he paid a majestic appearance. The premises of the monastery at the church served as public institutions, in particular, were schools and prisons. Today, the church also serves as a local history museum, is part of the Dominican monastery.
