Mass grave of victims of fascism, Zaporozhye

In the silence of pine trees on the site, which became a tomb thousands of Cossacks, is a granite monument to victims of fascism on the plate with the inscription: "At this point in 1941-1943 by the German fascists were tortured more than 36 thousand civilians Zaporozhye of them - more than 20 thousand Jews ". This historical monument, established June 1, 2001, a mass grave. Rapoport was made by sculptor, architect - Yuri Biryukov.
The history of the common grave of the victims of fascism in Zaporozhye
The Great Patriotic War came to Zaporozhye in the middle of August 1941. The defense of the city stood up to the beginning of October of the same year. During the period of occupation, the Nazis shot 43 thousand people, of which 5000 - prisoners of war. Families Jews gathered near the local council to send in a ghetto under the Melitopol. But in fact, they were to be shot to the dug antitank ditches. This place was the grave thousands of people. The final liberation from the occupation of Zaporozhye was 30 December 1943.
Cossacks honor the memory of the victims and annual Victory Day at the mass grave laying flowers. The very same area has about 800 historical sites associated with the period of the war.
