Sweet estuary, Berdyansk
During the outskirts of Berdyansk Zaporizhia region, where the river empties into the Byrd Sea of Azov, in its right-bank floodplain of the tract is Sweet estuary.
In the territory of the tract is part of the right bank of the river floodplain Berdy with brackish and fresh water lakes located nearby, as well as vegetation that is characteristic of the meadows and steppes.
Tract Sweet estuary since 1972 declared a natural monument. Its area is 25 hectares. The area is filled with fresh and brackish lakes, rich vegetation, many different animals. The name of the tract obtained through the water, which is most fresh in some lakes. Water salinity in estuaries is 4 to 6 g / l. It is here, on the Berdyansk spit and the surrounding areas during the summer season the city and its surroundings are transformed into a bustling resort with many visitors and tourists.
Sweet estuary is a unique place with its special environment and the world. Nearby are mud, which are filled with sodium chloride and a large number of sulfates. From this composition the water here has a slightly grayish color.
On the territory of Sweet Estuary as a result of archeological excavations were found sites of ancient settlements remains of dwellings, arrowheads, pottery, harpoons for fishing indicate the Neolithic period -. 3 millennium BC.
The flora and fauna of the estuary
- Limani tract are natural hatchery fish Azov. Here, the spring walleye spawning runs, pelengasa, carp and other fish.

Tract Sweet estuary is located in the delta of the Bird River. The length of 125 km, the river is replenished mainly groundwater and meltwater. Falling into the Sea of Azov, the river is overflowing and replenish its waters are many estuaries stretching from the village Novopetrovka to Berdyansk spit.
