Historical Museum. Basil Tarnow

It is an ancient and well-known Ukrainian Museum, formed, as is commonly believed, in 1896. Writing about it was made in Chernigov province Archives Commission. The museum is named after Basil Tarnow Jr. - patron, collector of antiquities, public and cultural figures, bequeathed his unique collection of Chernigov. The museum has two major sections: History and Military History departments.

The main structures are located in a house built in the early 19th century. He stands on the site of the Chernihiv Val (Detintsa).

The museum presents the results in a settlement near the village of Mizin items primitive skill: stylized sculptures from the ancient meander ornaments, bracelets, ocher painted mammoth bones. In 16 rooms housed rich exhibition of objects that tell about the various historical periods of Chernigov. Here you can find a collection of artifacts produced during excavations, ancient tomes, rare documents and other things old Cossack history.

Exposition of the museum begins with dioramas "Mezin site" that reproduces the life of primitive man during the late Paleolithic. Next is a stand with rarities - two autographed Taras Shevchenko, left them on the "Kobzar" and the album "Kachanivka."

A separate exhibition devoted to the history of Chernigov, from 7 to 20 century.
