Odessa Theological Seminary
The oldest educational institution and landmark architecture in southern Ukraine was the seminary in Odessa . It provides training and svyacheno- Orthodox Church clergy, theologians, teachers, church schools, church choirs regents and masters of church embroidery.
History Seminary
- Odessa Theological Seminary was founded in 1838 and inaugurated on October 1. Its first rector was a prominent church leader and hierarch Archimandrite Porfiry Uspensky.
- During the atheistic persecution in 1918. The school was ruined. In 1920 it was closed by order of the Provincial Department of Education. The building was handed over to the Odessa Agricultural Institute.
- In 1944 Odessa Theological Seminary reopened. The following year, Bishop Sergei restored. It carried out pastoral-theological courses, which a year later was reorganized into the seminary.
- In 1961, the seminary evicted in hotel corps Assumption monastery. During this period, barely avoided closure.
- Since 1967, adjustment facilities are beginning to take place this year open church-archaeological study.
During the entire existence seminary prepared about 3,000 graduates. Seminary maintains the continuity of the former theological school, contributing to the development and deepening of theological thought.
Activities seminary
Today 30 teachers spend teaching. The head of the seminary rector, Archimandrite Seraphim. Became vice rector Archpriest Andrey Nikolaidi. Secretary of the Board is Archimandrite Tikhon.
It opened the following branches:
- regency;
- zolotoshveyne.
A cultural and educational activities in the form of publication pastoral and theological journal "Bulletin of Andrew."
In seminary person accepted Orthodox religion males aged 18 to 35 years who have secondary or higher education, unmarried or married first marriage.
