Lake Ialpug

Lake Ialpug

The largest estuary lake in Ukraine is in the Odessa region, about the city of Bolgrad . It is fresh, its length - 39 km, width - 15 km, and the greatest depth - 5.5 m. The area is smooth Ialpug about 149 square kilometers and it is located in three areas, namely: Izmail, Bolgrad and Reni.

In the southern part of the lake has a strait that leads to another lake Bessarabian - Kugurluy. Yalpug lake underground sources located in the Republic of Moldova in the same village Ialpug. The height above sea level is only 2.4 m. This is the only body of water, supply water to the city of Bolgrad.

Flora and fauna of the lake

It is said that when Alexander Pushkin traveled to Odessa region, the lake has made ​​a lasting impression on him, and he decided to sit on the shore of an oak tree in his memory of himself. Like it or not, it is difficult to judge, but residents support this legend, but at the same time take care of the oak.

Since the lakeside town located Bolgrad, the up and coming attractions are also in it. Among the most prominent is possible to note a large Transfiguration Cathedral, founded in 1820. It was erected in the center of the city and in the style of classicism.

There is also a mausoleum Inzov - a cemetery church, built in 1844 in the form of a rotunda. There reburied the remains of General IN Inzov who helped migrants. Also nearby is St. Nicholas Church, built in 1881. Now it belongs to the monuments of national importance.
