Historical and Cultural Reserve, Ostrog

There is one small town in Rivne region, which is often called "Volyn Athens." This is the jail - a city with a thousand years of history, which raged cultural and educational life of Ukraine.

Rapidly the city started to develop from the 14th century. It was in jail that time began to have rich and influential family of the Princes of Ostrog.

It was during the reign of Basil-Ostrozky city became a cultural mecca and center of Ukrainian Orthodoxy.

  • Castle Hill. Here once stood a castle Ostrog. By the way, is the only in Ukraine and Europe odnovezheva fortress, which has been preserved to this day. We also know that during the reign of Basil of Ostrog Krasny was surrounded by fortress walls, and the first stone in the foundation of the Round Tower was built in the middle of the 15th century.
  • If we go from the castle to the nearby public garden, you can see the monument dedicated to 400 anniversary of Ostroh Academy. It is in this city was once famous printing house of Ivan Fedorov, where the world saw ABC and Ostroh Bible.
  • Another interesting object - Lutsk gate. Previously, she served as one of the parts of the defensive structures jail, and now houses the Museum of the book.
