Museum of Ukrainian towel, Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky
Museum of Ukrainian towel in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky - a unique museum, the like of which is hard to find in many cities of Ukraine. The exposition in a former Three Saints Church, the building dates back to 1651 year. The composition of the temple is unique, so it is included in the list of monuments of national importance.
The museum exposition
The museum was opened in 1995. The fund holds more than 4,000 towels of different periods. The exposition consists of 300 copies, which are made in different techniques:
- decorative embroidery;
- cross;
- carving;
- openwork technique (dolblёnkoy, by cutting, tightening, openwork with decking).
Collected exhibits from Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv and Cherkasy regions, as well as the Polesie.
In the first hall of the museum housed the famous cloth towels Pereyaslavschiny that date back to the 19th century. Their ornamentation takes its origin from the ancient ages.
Among a variety of towels in the reserve collection stands out a very interesting type of ancient monastery (monastic) towels. Monastic towels were distributed in the south of Kyiv and Poltava region. The name they got from the fact that their embroidered vyhodnitsy nuns in the 19th century in monasteries, where they were distributed to all villages and towns mentioned areas. The collection of the reserve 24 stores the original monastery towel.
Getting there
Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky - a city of regional significance in the east of the Kiev region, located only 90 km from the capital. To get to the city can be by bus, departing from the bus station in Kiev and the metro station "Chernihiv", "Kharkiv" and "Borispol".
