Paton Bridge
The world`s first all-welded bridge was built in Kiev . Design and construction involved Academician Evgeny Paton, who was able to combine two incompatible concepts, for those times - welding and bridge engineering. Prior to this, in the construction of bridges often used rivets. Paton has also developed the basic principles of construction of welded bridges. Over time, this method gained popularity worldwide.
Grand opening of the bridge took place November 5, 1953 and was a unique event for the residents of the city. Paton Bridge was the first to cross the Dnieper, built in the post-war years, which was the rapid development of the left-bank areas. Until 2004, over the bridge and the tram line, it was subsequently dismantled and replaced by a trolleybus line.
