The Ivan Fedorov Monument
Today Lviv Monument to Ivan Fedorov is the symbolic center of the book Town. Being on the street Basement, between the Dominican Church and the Church of the Assumption , the monument has become a point of attraction for the largest second-hand market of the city.
Every day, hundreds of Lviv residents and tourists come here in search of a rare edition, an interesting book or rarity records.
Monument of the first Slavic printmaker - it was a gift from her beloved city of Lviv sculptors in honor of the 400th anniversary since the beginning of printing in Ukraine. Inauguration of the monument to Ivan Fedorov was held November 26, 1977.
According to popular legend, received instructions from Moscow to make a monument in just 2 months, sculptors decided to save time and took as a basis already molded body, designed for a typical monument to Soviet soldiers. Adding the first printer head, putting his left hand a book and making of overcoats apron, the creators gave the city a new landmark. Today, the monument to Fedorov is the hallmark of Lviv, and his image is found on a set of greeting cards and magnets.
