St Mykhailo Church
Gilded domes of St Mykhailo Cathedral fascinate everyone who looks at it. They say that in this temple you can get inspiration and positive energy. Come to Cherkasy and convince yourself of this!
St Mykhailo Cathedral is located on 212, Illina Street. If you go inside the temple, you will see how beautiful the interior of the temple is. Artfully hand-painted ceilings and walls draw one’s eye. Windows located in the upper tier of the cathedral allow the light in, such way creating the illusion of a magical shining.
In the courtyard you’ll have a great opportunity to have a rest and think of life while relaxing in a summerhouse. Nearby you will notice the monument to a monk, who kneels at the broken bell. An old park, located next to the cathedral, is attractive due to its cool and quiet.
The temple has been designed by Bishop Safroniy, who worked as a builder in his youth and during his service built famous Holy Intercession Cathedral in the city of Boryspil’. Without special architectural education, the Bishop has built St Mykhailo Cathedral, which later became the largest in Ukraine. The temple is 72 meters high, 53 meters wide and 58 meters long. It is planned to erect a belfry of more than one hundred meters high.
The cathedral’s construction has been financed by the donations of parishioners. Through the efforts of so many people, on the 9th of August 2002, in Pershotravnevyi Park, the cathedral was consecrated in honour of St Michael the Archangel of God. Five Orthodox metropolitans and twenty bishops from different countries of the world have visited the ceremony.
All tourists should visit this wonderful place, filled with peace and harmony. You can get to St Mykhailo Cathedral by bus, which routs to Pershotravnevyi Park.
