Museum "Mermaids Transnistria" was opened in the late 1980s, in memory of the first editions of the public, to create a group of famous Slavophiles - Markiyan Shashkevych, Ivan Vagilevichem, Jacob Glowacki.
All three were staunch fans of the Slavic peoples who considered this type of people particularly gifted with their own heroic history, culture, mythology and language. They considered it their duty to create not just a literary magazine for the Slavs, and print it in plain language of the people, which combined the features of several local dialects.
Mermaid Dnistrova
The leader of the creative trio M. Shashkevych first had the idea of creating a printed almanac (collected works with a single theme), which would describe the important events in the life of contemporary society. In the works supposed to cover the whole range of interests of Slavs different classes - from demanding intellectuals to ordinary citizens.
The first edition was published in 1837, it was very popular and had a huge impact. But, unfortunately, all research scientists has been lost, and completely stopped after a few years. Prints stopped going after the death Shashkevych.
People`s language
An important feature of "Mermaids Transnistria" is the language in which the publication was issued. It was coined by literary language uniting all Slavic dialects. It was called "popular" and created for him the alphabet of the Russian and Ukrainian letters. The fate of both publications, since language, after the death of M. Shashkevych was sealed. The development of the great things for the Slavs stopped.
The bell tower of the Church of the Holy Spirit
The building, which is a literary museum, was built in 1729. It was part of the ensemble of the church, which was built in the Baroque: magnificent decorative vases in the corners, a rich stucco and stacked eaves. But in 1939 the church was undermined by German aircraft bomb.
To accommodate the museum exhibits, in 1987 the belfry was attached to the one-story building. "Mermaid Dnistrova" is located here by chance, once its founder Shashkevych was a disciple of the Seminary, which was in the church of the Holy Spirit.
