Kremenets Castle

Kremenets Castle - a defensive structure on Mount Bona, which towers over the city at the height of Kremenets 397 meters above sea level. This place is known in Ukraine as an impregnable wall: in 1240 he tried to take Batu Khan, but the castle withstood a siege-year, in 1254 did not yield governor of the Golden Horde Kuremsy.
Construction of the castle began in 1366 the Polish king Casimir III and Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas continued in 1382. The final form of its architectural ensemble acquired only in the 16th century. It consisted of two bridges and three towers: "The Gate", "Cherlena" and "on a new home"; Prince`s Palace, the Church of St. Michael. In 1536 the castle became the wife of the owner of the Polish King Sigismund I - Queen Bona Sforza. It was named in honor of her mountain, is now the castle. In the autumn of 1648 the Cossacks besieged the castle and after eighteen months of fighting took it and destroyed.
In the early 20th century the castle wanted to understand, and the stone used to build roads. Fortunately, this has not been implemented. Now the castle were only a significant part of the walls with the remains of loopholes, two storey gate tower, as well as tracks from the well.
