Small castle (synagogue)
Little Castle - an architectural monument of the 17th century, built with the permission of the Polish King Sigismund III, with the assistance of a large Jewish community of Lutsk. This is the oldest building in the southwestern part of the old Lutsk , which was mainly inhabited by Jews. The opening took place in 1620. Synagogue shrouded in many legends, some researchers believe that a small castle was rebuilt one of the palaces of the prince of Westminster. Also, there is a version that the synagogue - a part of the fortifications of the city. However, none of the versions has no documentary evidence. For a long time Little Castle was the religious, educational and spiritual center of the Jewish community of Lutsk.
Synagogue consists of a square prayer hall and the five-story tower, which also has the shape of a square. To a small castle adjoined the school building and the prayer hall for women. In general, the architecture of the synagogue there is a tendency characteristic of Lutsk 17th century - is the presence of different niches and towers. The temple was in force until the beginning of World War II. Was partially resumed in 1970. Today, the synagogue is not valid and is used as a sports club premises.
