Austrian fort

Austrian fort

Bryukhovychi village is only 8 km from Lviv and is famous for its clean lakes and pine forests. At one time he was a famous spa town, but you can find not only luxury cottages. Curious tourists now and then pull here the ruins of one of the Austrian military fort.

The remains of the fortifications are in the vicinity Bryuhovichskogo forest, near the cemetery. Start of construction of this fort dates from the end of the 19th century. It was built to protect the borders of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from the encroachments of the aggressive policy of Russia. Occupying a prime location on Zyavlenskoy mountain, hence the neighborhood perfectly visible for miles. But despite the robust protective fortifications Bryuhovichsky fort took no active part in hostilities. The fact is that during the construction period, he managed to lose his defensive value. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the military began to use the tactic of shooting from the closed position, and the fort can be easily fired from cannons.

Today the old times resemble only scattered ruins on a hill. From the Austrian fort there were some tunnels with small "windows", which served for combat purposes. But with the top of the hill is still offering superb views of the surrounding valley.
