Church of St. Michael Uzhok
One of the most striking sights of the Carpathians, no doubt, is the wooden church of St. Archangel Michael, which is located in the village of Uzhok.
The history of the Church of St. Michael
Since the end of construction (June 1745) and to this day the temple is visited by villagers for generations have passed on the story of this extraordinarily interesting building. The main feature is that the church was built without a single nail, sustained in boykovskom style and is located on a hillside. More recently (in June 2013), the church of St. Michael has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The central part of the building has the shape of a tent and rises majestically above the surrounding landscape. Externally, the temple has not been subjected to any changes and restoration that has undergone interior.
However, preserved:
- unique carvings,
- iconostasis
- altar
- the massive bell that over a hundred years of the church,
- preserved ancient books dating from the 17th century.
A significant change in the church may be called its location. Initially, the church was slightly higher, almost on the hill, but soon people realized that it is very inconvenient and rolled on wooden logs down.
It emanates from the old days of each wall, each figure, each plank. The desire to touch forever bygone history attracts masses of tourists and travelers coming to the village Uzhok to see a miracle preserved in our troubled world.
