Church of the Virgin Mary, Zhvanets
Church of the Virgin Mary located in the Khmelnitsky region in the village Zhvanets. Also, it is often called by other names: Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary Armenian Church, Armenian fortress. Although this temple fortress difficult to call, but it was built as a fortification.
church History
The church was built in 1699. Then Armenian community settled in the village Zhvanets - after the Turks were expelled from skirts. He served them for nearly a century. Then Armenians left the village and the church was rebuilt in the church of the Virgin Mary. The new building is baroque.
In 1766 the Turks attacked Zhvanets. Then of residents took refuge on the church walls.
In Soviet times the church was posted factory. Now the temple was gradually carried out restoration work. It regularly worship.
Architecture
The church is located in an area of 50 ariv. It is made in the Baroque style. On the facade are carved stone composition.
It was built next to the walls Zhvaneckogo castle . Because the building was a small fortress. In its restructuring angular towers turned into bastions and two walls of the church was dismantled and moved. Then the rebuilt part of the church and it was a continuation of defenses. In periods of attacks invaders residents hid behind the strong walls of the temple.
Now the church is a tall building. The highest building - a tower. The area of the church surrounded by massive walls with gates. In buildings and church bell towers are loopholes.

It can be reached in several ways. A village shuttle buses from the regional centers Khmelnytsky , Chernivtsi and Ternopil . You can also get there by train to these cities or to Kamenetz-Podolsk, then transfer to a bus or use the services of private carriers.
Best to go by car. This car is the way of national importance N03 (Zhytomyr - Chernivtsi).
