Kirch of St Paul, Odesa

The famous St. Paul Lutheran Church in Odessa - the most legendary and one of the oldest churches in the city. It was founded on the initiative of the Odessa progenitor of the Duke de Richelieu in 1804, when he was appointed the first Lutheran pastor and created an entire residence Evangelical Lutheran bishop. Already in 1827, was built church building designed by Francisco Boffo.

In 1893 there was a global reconstruction with an increase in the area of ​​the church, the parish is growing rapidly and the previous building was destroyed. With the help of architect Karl Shoyrembrandta, the building became more spacious, while maintaining its original decor and interior style.

Night in May 1976 was an arson attack on the church, and the building is completely burned to the ground. It was reduced in the early 2000s with the help of the World Lutheran community, collecting 6.5 million euros. Internal filling the church is rich antique items donated from all over Europe: wooden benches from Germany, 4 bells of Passau on the Danube, the icon of Our Lady, a nursing infant from a private collection (Ukrainian family has kept the icon in the Soviet period, it was created by craftsmen of the 19th century in Western Ukraine ).
