Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory

Few people know that near the district center Andrushivka that in Zhytomyr, Ukraine is the only privately owned astronomical observatory with the romantic name "July morning". Fans of mysteries of science and astronomy may come here on tour.

History Andrushivka Observatory

The first and only private observatory built scientist and astronomer Yuri Ivashchenko together with like-minded people. Interestingly, he was born on the day when man first flew in space - April 12, 1961, as it was named in honor of Yuri Gagarin.

Actually building the observatory began at Andrushivka 1998. To do this, use tseysivskyy astronomical dome with a diameter of 8 meters and weighing more than 6 tons, which at that time was lying idle at the Main Astronomical Observatory NAS of Ukraine, and the state could not afford to set.

While it is difficult to deliver and install such expensive equipment Observatory in Andrushevka failed to open on the day of the 40th anniversary of the first manned flight into space - in 2001.

Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory "July Morning" officially recognized in Ukraine and in the world and is a member of the Astronomical Association of Ukraine.

What is interesting discovered by scientists from Andrushivka

Five astronomers and enthusiasts in Andrushevsky Observatory made many interesting discoveries. For example, in 2003 they were able to see the flow of the asteroid, which was unknown to science until then. During the years 2005-2012 Observatory "July Morning", or as it is know in the world «July morning observatory», entered the twenty most prolific observatories in the world to study the asteroid.

In the observatory observe the rings of Saturn, the moons of Jupiter, crescent of Venus, as well as working on a telescope that is able to see objects a million times weaker than the vision that sees man.

Most discoveries Andrushivka Observatory collective. Moreover, in the ranking of the discoverers of minor planets, scientists Andrushevsky occupied 91 place in the world.

Interestingly, the majority of newly discovered asteroids give a number, but some minor planets have such names as Zhytomyr, Svyatylivka, Andrushevka, Radomyshl, Berdichev, Korostyshev, peas and even Klitschko.

How to get there

Observatory "July Morning" is in the village Halchyn, at ul. Observatorna 3-7. In fact, this southern outskirts of the town Andrushivka, which can be reached via Zhitomir (distance 47 km) or Berdichev, where buses often travel to Andrushivka. Another option - get there by train from Kyiv or Station Kozyatyn curb and drive from there by bus.
