Mounds of Khortitsa, Zaporozhye

The pride of Zaporozhye is the island Khortytsya , in the northern part of which is located a few burial groups. Due to the limitations of its origin have settled many mounds, slid and thickets. You can find them only if you focus on the post-pointers. The mounds were built in the Bronze period and during the Scythians. Therefore, they have some differences.

The mounds were built with the purpose of a decent burial of important people. In addition, the mounds serve as a guide in the vast steppe, which Ukraine is many centuries ago. Some of the hills were his name. Many of these people attributed magical powers.

Funeral hills Khortitse arranged so that their heights with a beautiful view of the river. It helped buried scrutinize their native lands. Some historical sources indicate that at the top of many mounds were installed stone images. To this day they have not been preserved because of the looters and vandals.

Many mounds were plowed during agricultural work in the early 20th century. In one of the six surviving burial groups today is the tourist complex "Scythian Camp" .
