Monument to Gogol

Few preserved monuments in the country, survivors of the October Revolution. Those who wish to see one of them should go to the Mogilev-Podolsky and stroll along the avenue Alexander to its intersection with the Armenian street. The monument to Gogol, who was one of the first monuments of Ukrainian writer turned home district doctor S. Mikhalevskaya. This building is also called "the house the mayor."

Monument to Ukrainian-Russian writer is in the form of a bust mounted on a pedestal height of 2 meters.

The monument appeared in the city in 1898. In honor of this event the area in which it was installed, it was renamed the Cathedral in the name Gogol. After 13 years, the monument was replaced in the modern residence and the area restored to its former name.

Legend of the monument to Gogol

Locals tell the story so long, it`s hard to say with certainty where the truth and fiction. Back in the 19th century in the city theater "Giant", in conjunction with an event on the day of birth of the author, put the "Inspector". Actors, inspired by the presence of the head of the city, decided to demonstrate the local situation under the guise of Gogol`s play. To this end, they diligently portrayed city officials playing characters work. The mayor, having solved mockery, ran to the scene and started a fight, thus tore the play.

After some time the locals collected money and erected a monument to Gogol front of the house of the mayor.
