Church of the Archangel Michael, Holoby

In the small town of Holoby Volyn region there are several partially or completely destroyed buildings whose age goes back to the 18th century. Some of them are better preserved, such as the Church of the Archangel Michael (aka - St. Michael`s Church); the other monuments are in poor condition.

Construction work on the church began as the construction of the estate of Wilga, in 1711. The initiator of the construction of the temple was made by Josef Jaruzelski - Podlaskie podstolya who decided to restore the church, which was destroyed in 1708 by the war against the Swedes. The construction lasted for a long time; opening and consecration of the church took place in 1728.

The first reconstruction of the church did Chernihiv Governor Louis Wilga in 1793, after the building seven years ago was hit by lightning, cause a fire. The next blow was the Church of the First World War in 1916, when the Germans destroyed the bell tower. By the end of World War II the church was closed and turned into a warehouse, but with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1997, the Church of Archangel Michael returned to the Roman Catholic community, which took him to restore.

What is interesting in the church

The church is of interest as their appearance, and in terms of the interior. Plastered brick structure is made in the Baroque style, is in the shape of the cross and covered with tiles. Above the entrance bell tower was added two stories high, covered with a tin roof with an iron cross. Of the four figures of saints, made in 1711, to date, only one survived.

Inside the building, and has a spherical cross vaults; the whole interior has features of rococo style, the walls are painted with frescoes depicting scenes from the Holy Scripture. Tiled stone flooring.
