Ascension Church History

Church of the Ascension built on the site of old wooden church. And the process of construction was original, to say a little strange. Old brick church besieged and then dismantled. By the wooden predecessor was built back in 1602 and gave its name to the whole area - Znesinnia (Temple of Ascension).

Some historians (including John Vahylevych) were convinced that the territory Znesinnia Prince Danilo Galician founded Lviv.

Church of the Ascension was built from 1857 to 1901 years. The construction process took place under the watchful eye of architect Vladislav Galician. In Lviv, there are others of its construction, house building and the Polytechnic Society Sports Society "Falcon" on the street Dudayev, Bachevsk tomb in the Lychakiv cemetery.

Of course, there were opponents that one of the oldest wooden churches rebuild. Historians say that the old church was in a very poor condition.

Architecture Building

Church of the Ascension of the Lord - a bizarre intertwining of Gothic style neoromanticism. The interior is dominated by paintings of the early 20th century, but along with this are icons in the church who were still in the wooden church. A sandstone which was treated outside the walls, quarried in the village Demnya, near Mykolaiv (Lviv region).

How to get to the Church of the Ascension

Church of the Ascension is on the street Staroznesenskiy. Before leaving the house only one bus - number 25 (st. Korduba - SEC «King Cross Leopolis»). You can also walk through the park "Znesinnia".

Slightly higher on this street is the Congregation of the Sisters of Jehoshaphat. In Soviet times the church was demolished. Now there stands a new monastery.
