Hnyletskyy monastery

Between the villages of Pyrohiv, Foresters and Chapaevka is a unique area - Gnilechchina, a little-known simple tourist. But here there is a network of underground caves, such Lavra. At the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries in the area was built Gniletsky Monastery. Accurate data on construction are available, but probably a monastery built by monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra , who left her walls for privacy. First monastery included a church and underground cells, and in the 12th century built a temple ground in the name of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the 13th century the church was invaded by Batu Khan, so that was partially destroyed and then restored. However, the invasion continued, in 1416 - the khan of Adygea, in 1482 - Giray Khan Megley desecrated the church. The monks left the monastery walls. He has ceased to exist, and the area was covered with dense forest. The walls of the temple were dismantled by local residents for household needs.

Only after several centuries, in 1902, the architect Ermakov built a wooden church here than marked revival of the monastery. Soon came close fraternal body, hut and a bakery. Thus, Tserkovschina began operating a new monastery. Monks partially cleared the cave and resumed their ancient cave temple. During the Soviet era monastery ceased to exist, here opened a colony for juvenile offenders, then the hospital, and in 1969 opened a sanatorium, which functions here today. Since August 1999, the underground church held worship again. Nowadays Gniletsky Monastery - one of the most significant places of the spiritual life of the Kiev region.
