Nicholas Church, Kozelets

Nicholas Church is located on the river in the village of Oster Kozelets Chernihiv region. Command of the late Baroque style with elements of classicism.

The history of the church

Nicholas Church was built in 1781-1784 years on the southern edge of the old fortress Kozeletskoy ages 17-18 in place of the old wooden church.

Funds for construction Nicholas Church priest gave Cyril crack-Tarlovskii nicknamed Wild Pip. According to legend, he secretly married the Russian Empress Elizabeth of Alexei Razumovsky.

Despite the tumultuous events of the past centuries, St. Nicholas Church is well preserved. Changes were only bath house, which in 1811 was replaced by a spherical dome.

During the Second World War the church burned, but it managed to recover. In the late 80-ies were carried out restoration work, which was renovated lost fragments of church domes.

Also recently in the church installed a new iconostasis, which served as the basis for the painting of the capital of the cathedral .

By the way, is located near the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin , which in 2004 was crowned last direct descendant of Ukrainian Hetman Kyrylo Razumovsky Andrey Razumovsky. By Kozelets he came from Argentina along with his future wife - Argentine Ursula.

How to get to church

A Kozelec is the European route E95 car. Getting to Kozelets best of Kyiv (73 km) or Chernihiv (68 km). The nearest railway station - Bobrovytsia . Unfortunately, it should go up to 38 kilometers. And there`s only stop the train. So best get to Kozelets bus or car.
