In Kiev, the bugs island has a point of interest, known as Stalin Subway. In Soviet times, about this project, no one knew, because it was kept a secret. Working under the fear of being shot or enjoy all the "joy" of repression did not have the right to disclose information about the so-called "building number 1".
The name of the object was due to the fact that in 1938 Stalin himself had the idea of creating underpasses. Implementation ideas do employees Metrostroi, and at the end of the 30s of the 20th century building on this site was in full swing. Purpose of the Stalinist metro was to duplicate the railway bridges. Thus, directly under the Dnieper were formed tunnels to transport valuable cargo and transfer from one bank to the troops. However, the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and the rapid approach of the German invaders to the city were not allowed to complete the construction of underground tunnels. As a result of all the work urgently curtailed and equipment sank in the river. At the end of the war the construction work has not resumed, recognizing them unprofitable.
Today Stalin Subway is abandoned and half-submerged structure. Concrete pipe stands on the island of Zhukov. Some large-scale organized excursions here, but none so far do not know what will be the fate of canned construction.
