Church of St. Peter Graves, Zaporozhye

In the Shevchenko district of Zaporozhye on the street Krasnov is a temple of St. Peter Graves.

The church, built recently, refers to the Kyiv Patriarchate. The temple was built at the height of one floor. His main decoration are arched windows and icons at the main entrance. Gable roof is decorated with a single cupola with a cross. Next to the church is a free-standing bell tower. Services are held regularly in the temple and in the Ukrainian language.

The history of the church of St. Peter Graves

Born in 1596 in a family of Moldavian Boyar, Petro Mohyla was able to become a famous and unforgettable political, ecclesiastical and educational figure, move to the position of Archimandrite of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and Metropolitan of Kiev.

He began his studies in the future associate of Lviv, and continued in France and Holland. At the age of 29 years, Peter became a monk, and a year later became Archimandrite of Kiev-Pechersk Monastery.

During his service focused on the writing and publishing religious literature. Another concern was Peter Graves Orthodox reconciliation.

In 1631 the monastery opened the first school. Archimandrite wanted to open a school in the city who are not only not inferior to Europe in terms of teaching, but to exceed them.

Saturated acts was his life and early death became Metropolitan. He left this world in fifty years. In 1996 he was canonized by the Holy Synod of the two patriarchates - Kiev and Moscow.
