Vladimir descent

Walking Kiev and being on the Hem, select a path through the center of the Vladimir descent. It brings together the European area with the Postal and thus connects the center with Podil.

History Vladimir descent

In the mid-18th century at the request of and at the expense of residents Podil was cut through St. Michael`s Mount. The old road that passes Kreschatinskim ravine, was in terrible condition and required major changes. It was therefore decided that it is better to lay a new path. Descent time called Bridge Street because that was the only way in Kiev, which was lined with stone blocks. Since 1869, the descent was part of the Alexander Street, connecting the modern Arsenal square with Kontraktowa .

Since 1919, Vladimir descent was named the street of the Revolution, and in 1934 - Kirov. Only 1944 receives its present name due to the fact that on the descent there is a monument to Prince Volodymyr the Great of Kievan Rus.

Since 1892, through the streets of the first in Russian empire tram, connecting the center with Podil was launched. Tram line was dismantled in 1978.

What to see

National Philharmonic

The house was built for the Merchants Assembly in 1882 by architect V. Nikolayev. Namely, as the Philharmonic began to be used only in 1944, because the room is better suited for such purposes. In 1962, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of the legendary composer Mykola Lysenko Column Hall of the National Philharmonic of Kiev was named in his honor.

Kiev water

Located here is the oldest existing building "Palestinian filter" Kiev water supply system, which operates since 1887. Nearby is a former residential building aqueduct workers.

You can also walk the stairs leading from the Vladimir descent to the waterfront road. It was built in the 1930s. The ladder rests on the monument of Magdeburg law .
