Area Koryatovicha, Uzhgorod

Area Koryatovicha - is the largest and one of the oldest areas of Uzhgorod. It is located in the heart of the city. From ancient times the area Koryatovicha collecting the city`s main fairs and festivals.

The history of the area Koryatovicha

The name of the area Koryatovicha was in honor of the Lithuanian Grand Duke. Back in 1393, he and his army arrived in the Carpathian region and makes a huge contribution to the cultural, spiritual and educational life of the region, thereby strengthening the position of local people.

Since the late 19th century on the area of printing house, it was later restored in 1915 then opened the printing house of the company "Unio", in Soviet times, the city printing house worked.

Square Koryatovicha witnessed major events in the city:

in 1920 - a rally in honor of transmitting the blue and yellow flag;
in 1937 - large educational conference, which was attended by more than 15 thousand people.

In 2001, the city government of Uzhgorod was decided to erect a monument on the square in honor of the President of Carpatho-Ukraine Augustin Voloshin.
