Baron Shteingel Estate

House Baron Shteingel in Kiev is located on the street Yaroslav Val, and reminds his castle views. The mansion was built in the late 19th century to the landlord Michael Podgorski project a young and very talented architect Nicholas Dobachevskogo. Special chic building attached bizarre tower with a sharp Gothic spiers, jagged walls, narrow lancet windows and openwork lattice. Above the entrance to the arch are two mythical creatures that seem to support the tower. Another interesting detail - in front of the building is laid out on the marble floor of a beautiful mosaic inscription «SALVE» (translated from the Latin - "hello").

So far there is no consensus about who was the owner of the mansion. For a long time there was a legend that the castle belonged to manufacturers, producing tobacco products under the name "Salve". Later, he gave the house to his girlfriend.

Some scientists believe that the owner of the castle was Maxim Shteynhel owner wineries and shops, which in this house never lived. And the idea is that in the neighborhood during construction of the house, lived Baron Steinheil, and construction of a new mansion attributed to him.

Throughout its history, the house changed a lot of owners. At one time it was located on the first floor of confectionery, and later settled cinema. The upper floors were leased to tenants. Under Soviet rule in the house were located communal apartments. In the early 2000s, the tenants were evicted, and the house passed into private ownership.

The castle has not changed since it was built, and still is in good condition. Most rooms are decorated with stucco ceilings, preserved many tiled fireplaces. Baron Shteingel castle is considered one of the most beautiful monuments of Kiev.
