Monument Turul

Monument "Turul" is set in the courtyard of an ancient castle in Uzhgorod , near the village of Forks that in Transcarpathian region. The sculpture in bronze is a majestic bird predator, preparing for takeoff. In fact Turul - a mystical bird that looks like a falcon, the story of which can often be found in the Hungarian mythology.

This sculpture is associated with the events that took place back in 1703. Turul became a symbol of victory over the Hungarian rebels Austrian troops. The monument installed in 1903, after 800 years after the famous event. "Turul" in Turkic means "falcon". According to historical legends, the falcon was the favorite bird hunters and nomadic Scythian tribes. With this bird in many nations are linked legends and mythical stories, and she elevated to the rank of the totem and even idol.

After World War II monument to the legendary bird dismantled and sent to the Museum of Uzhgorod. It was only in 1989, the monument "Turul" was restored.
